List of great movies
« on: March 17, 2012, 06:14:47 PM »
Some movies are good, some are bad. But every once in a while, one comes along that is truely amazing. So much so that it is recognised with a good IMDB rating.

No seriously, what films would you consider to be greats? Like what are the greatest films you have ever seen? I have a rather short list at the moment, so I'm looking to expand on it.

Films I have seen/Consider great:

Fight Club (My personal favourite film)
Se7en
The Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
Full Metal Jacket
Forrest Gump
Inglorious Basterds
Kill Bill I and II
The Bourne Trilogy
Hero (with Jet Li, amazing film)
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Gladiator

Films I want to see:

Men Behind the Sun
City of God
Saving Private Ryan
Das Boot
A Clockwork Orange
Reservoir Dogs
Apocalypse Now
Good Will Hunting
LoTR Trilogy
Original 3 Star Wars
The Departed
Godfather (only I and II, as III is apparently terrible)
Donnie Darko
American History X
House of Flying Daggers

These lists may be incomplete, as I can't think of all of the films I have and want to see off the top of my head.

I actually didn't find Inglorious Basterds and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy all that brilliant to be honest, the latter just felt like it dragged on for far too long. I agree with quite a few on your list though, some absolutely brilliant films there.

I'd consider the following movies my favourites, so I suppose they could be classed as great to me;

Fight Club
Requiem for a Dream
Memento
Catch Me If You Can
Inception
American Beauty
The Dark Knight
Shutter Island
Se7en
Shawshank Redemption
American History X
The Lord of the Rings; Return of the King
Aliens
Gladiator

Personal favourites that I wouldn't really consider 'greats', but I thoroughly enjoy them (if that makes sense) are;

Lucky Number Slevin
Armageddon
21
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
The Artist (I'm inbetween, brilliant film but.. I want to watch it again before putting it above)
Braveheart

I definitely need to see Reservoir Dogs, Godfather Trilogy and Pulp Fiction from your list though..

the static of this cruel world
cause some birds to fly long

before they've seen their day
long before they've seen their day

I really enjoyed Inglorious Basterds, even though I may have squeed all the way through it at Christoph Waltz :B

I'll list my top ten movies I guess. In no real order :U

Star Trek XI
Inglorious Basterds
Inception

...........i can't really think of any more right now :S

Okay just got my internet connection back after not having it for a week exactly, down to the hour. Freaky.

Anyway, I watched a few films in the time I've been offline, so my list has changed slightly.

I watched:

Men Behind the Sun (Brilliant film, historical and horrific)
City of God (my new favourite film)
LoTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
LoTR: The Two Towers

I'll edit my list when I feel like it.
